Background
Between 1917 and 1919, the Swedish state built nine grain warehouses for emergency storage, and Vara was chosen thanks to its strategic location. Today, Varaslättens Lagerhus handles around 200,000 tons of grain annually, making it the largest silo and drying facility in West Sweden. For the past 15 years, Skandia Elevator has been delivering complete system solutions – from intake to loading.
The Challenge
The choice and configuration of machinery must be adapted to the crops being handled in order to minimize wear, secure capacity, and maintain product quality.
This is particularly critical in facilities with daily operations, where incorrect settings can lead to unnecessary downtime and high maintenance costs. Thanks to our expertise, we can size and fine tune every component in the flow, ensuring the system works optimally for both current and future crops.
– Jonatan Hedén Galle, Sales Representative at Skandia Elevator
“The most important factors for us when it comes to handling at an industrial level are operational reliability, service, and support.”
The facility is built on the H line series with capacities from 120 t/h and upwards – elevators and conveyors designed to handle large flows with high operational reliability. Together with the digital temperature monitoring in Grain Cloud, the facility gains full control of the entire process. Each silo is equipped with temperature cables, and everything is managed via computer or mobile, providing increased security, better overview, and reduced stress in daily operations.
Owned by around 1,950 members, Varaslättens Lagerhus now has a solution that not only streamlines current flows but also represents a secure investment for the region’s grain production. The facility illustrates how hardware and software together minimize bottlenecks, downtime, and quality risks.
